Five Kingdoms of Life
Kingdoms of Life Classification
Living organisms are classified into five different kingdoms: Protista, Fungi, Plantae, Animalia, and Monera.
Monera's Expansion
When the kingdoms of life expanded to six, the Monera kingdom was divided into two subkingdoms: Eubacteria and Archaebacteria.
RH Whittaker's Contribution
The five kingdoms classification system was proposed by RH Whittaker in 1969. He based his classification on the following features: cell structure, mechanism of nourishment, mode of reproduction, and body organization.
